Sumedha is a Research Associate in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (Economics Division) at IIIT-D. She completed her MSc. Economics from TERI School of Advanced Studies with a specialization in Resource Economics and BSc. in Economics from Delhi University. Her current areas of interest include health economics, agricultural economics and environmental economics. Sumedha is presently working on problems related to the low uptake of crop insurance in India. She also likes to teach mathematics, statistics and environmental economics courses and spends her spare time cooking and singing.

Dr. Ranjini Ray is currently working on the susceptibility of semi arid tracks in peninsular India to climate shocks such as droughts and floods. Her work is about how climate variability plays a major role in climate shocks and what the societal outcomes are. It’s a comparative study combining institutional archival data and paleoclimate records (tree ring width and oxygen isotope data) spanning the 18 th and 19 th centuries India. Ranjini presented her work in EGU 2018, 2019, 2020 and conferences. She did her PhD dissertation from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay on “Dykes in the Deccan Traps”. The research was about geochemistry and emplacement mechanisms of Basaltic dykes in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. She has four publications in peer reviewed International journals.
